Unsatisfactory growth and development of young pine stands
Vaclav Narovec, Frantisek Sach, Stanislav Stenicka
Abstract Contemporary development and health condition of pine stands (Pinus sylvesrtis L.) up to 10 years after planting in lowland regions of eastern Bohemia is unfavourable. In the last 5 - 7 years, many deviations and malformations were observed, e. g. reduction of stand density due to infection by Armillaria ostoyae, big differention of height growth, a number of deviations from standard habitus of the Scotch pine, anomalies in growth of buds, shoots and needles (manifolding lateral buds on shoots including asymmetry of their arrangement, late seasonal growth of proleptic shoots, hypertrophic growth of needles, colour change of needles), etc. The noted problems are studied in a frame of the project called Definition and quantification of harmful and stressing factors in pine forest stands of the first age degree in changed immission and site conditions of east part of the Elbe River Region. That project is (1992 - 1994) coordinated by the Forest Research Station at Opocno.
