Research specialization

• Afforestation of agricultural land - tree species performance, ecology and stand maintenance of first-generation forests (nutrient cycling, new forest-floor humus).
• Forest renewal under conditions of mountain sites, tree species performance.
• Conversion of substitute tree species stands on formerly air-polluted mountain sites in the Czech mountains.
• Forest hydrology.

Dr. Kacalek attends both national and international scientific conferences to present research results (oral presentations and posters). He cooperates also with forest land owners and their forestry staff as an advisor. He is also a member of editorial boards of two scientific journals - Reports of Forestry Research (in Czech: Zprávy lesnického výzkumu) and Journal of Forest Science.

Publications
