History of Forest Research Station at Opocno

The station has been established as a autonomous Research institute for silviculture, forest seed and forest nursery management in 1951. The famous Opocno shelterwood management, its base had been formed by Hugo Konias in thirties, represented the main argument for founding the station. In 1952, it was included into the Research institute of forest management at Zbraslav-Strnady as a Research station of silviculture at Opocno.

From its creation the FRSO has covered investigation and consultancy in a frame of whole field of silviculture, i.e. in forest nursery practice, reforestation, forest regeneration and tending. The attention was namely paid to new technologies in forest nurseries, natural regeneration, reforestation, and conversion from high forest, regenerated by a clear-cut or an opening, to selective one. When air pollution injuries had emerged in sixties, investigation was aimed at silvicultural problems of declining forests particularly in mountain regions. There are more details from last activities of FRSO and its sections in papers added to download. The next information about research and consultancy scope is included in the list of publications.
